Pilgrimage to Assisi and St. Radegund, home of Bl. Franz Jägerstätter OSF
May 10, 2025 – May 24, 2025
After the first week visiting the major sanctuaries in Assisi where we celebrate with Sts. Francis and Clare the beauty of the Umbrian valley in May we go by bus to Germany passing the Alps. We will reach the German Austrian border and will go first to Altötting, one of the largest Marian shrines all over Europe. There also Blessed Franz Jägerstätter OFS worshipped , an Austrian farmer conscientious objector (+1943) who gave his life opposing the Hitler regime. A whole week we will have the time to visit his farm house, to visit his family, to work with his grandson, to meet the parish people living there, to go into an exchange with secular Franciscans today in Austria, to visit the places where Franz and his wife Franziska took their decisions and were suffering. After joining a social action we also will visit nearby Salzburg, the Franciscan church there and have a dialogue with friars minors about Jägerstätter and the importance of working for justice and peace then and today.
